An indigo 10th month might be an easy name to remember, but its Blue October’s
performance that is difficult to forget. Lead vocalist and founding member,
Justin Furstenfeld gave a nearly sold-out Bogarts, Cincinnati, Ohio, everything
they expected and more...
The buzz surrounding this band has been generated by the hit single “Hate
Me” from their latest release “Foiled,” but each and every
song in this memorable set is as deserving. The success of this album, as well
as the long term longevity of this band, will not be foiled as they’ve
got enough musical ability to go around the six member ensemble as they fronted
by a magnetic, charismatic lead singer that can write a song that will grab
you and will not let go. Justin is a songwriter. Justin is a performer. Justin
is a survivor.

Originally scheduled for mid-May, this show was postponed due to baseball
accident which forced lead singer Justin Furstenfeld to sit on the sidelines
for a few months. A broken leg, complicated by torn ligaments, required extensive
surgery and a brief pit-stop in their tour schedule. Now, a few months later,
Justin’s a bit incapacitated walking with the aid of crutches and support
of a barstool on stage. But other than that, Justin is one of the most capable
and captivating artists on tour.
Show highlights are many. “Everlasting Friend” is a masterpiece…lyrically
and musically, “Ugly Side” gets as close to the genius of Peter
Gabriel as it gets, “Razor Blade” featured bass player Matt Noveskey
supporting the bottom end with much more than a bass line, and “18th Floor
Balcony” showcases the many skills of Ryan Delahoussaye (violin ++) layered
with Justin’s lyrics and vocals that elevated the audience several stories
high… Oh…yeah, “Hate Me,” is a musical apology of epic
proportion.
Blue October’s story is worth retelling. The band formed in a small
Texas town in the late '90s by members Justin Furstenfeld, Jeremy Furstenfeld,
Ryan Delahoussaye, and Matt Noveskey. Blue October independently released their
debut album, The Answers. Two years later, Blue October made their major-label
debut on Universal with Consent to Treatment but were subsequently dropped and
then re-signed after Universal heard their next release “History for Sale.”
“Foiled” was released in April 2006.
Prior to the Cincy show, MusicPix stepped outside with Justin to talk about
his accident, what he does right before he goes on stage, and how Peter Gabriel
helped save his life. Stay tuned…the interview will be posted soon!
