NEW YORK, NY -- 05/02/2006 -- Atlantic Records has announced the release of "GOODBYE ALICE IN WONDERLAND," the new album from Jewel. The multi-platinum artist's first collection in three years, the eagerly awaited album arrived in stores across North America today.
Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls) and Jewel, "GOODBYE
ALICE IN WONDERLAND," is the three-time Grammy-nominated
singer/songwriter's sixth album since making her recording debut in 1995.
Its first single, "Again and Again," is already another major hit in
Jewel's extraordinary career. The track is currently a bulleted top 20
smash at Hot AC radio, while also climbing the airplay chart at Triple A
outlets nationwide. In addition, the song's companion video is in "Gung
Ho" rotation at VH1, where it is one of the top ten most-played clips.
Jewel has slated a wide array of promotional appearances to celebrate her
new album's release. Today, she visits NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay
Leno," where she is performing two songs live on the Toyota Concert Series
outdoor stage. She will then make a surprise guest appearance on "The
Ellen DeGeneres Show" tomorrow, May 3rd, followed on May 4th with an
interview and acoustic performance on PBS' "Tavis Smiley." Jewel's busy
release week will wrap up on May 6th, with a performance on DirecTV's "CD
USA" series.
Further high-profile TV appearances kick off on May 15th when Jewel stops
by ABC's "The View," followed the next evening with a live performance on
NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." Then, on June 2nd, Jewel will join
her summer tour partner (and Atlantic labelmate) Rob Thomas for a live
appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" as part of their popular Summer
Concert Series.
Jewel's much anticipated concert tour with Thomas is sure to be the hottest
ticket of the spring/summer season. The major North American trek will see
the two multi-platinum superstars sharing concert stages from
coast-to-coast. The seven-week itinerary is slated to kick off on May 23rd
at Clearwater, Florida's Ruth Eckerd Hall.
A variety of exciting online appearances are also slated to herald the
release of "GOODBYE ALICE IN WONDERLAND." Among them are an exclusive live
performance and interview at Yahoo! Live @ Launch, currently available at
www.music.yahoo.com. Meanwhile, four newly recorded live tracks --
including three from the new album -- are on offer as part of
www.walmart.com's exclusive "Soundcheck" series (found at
downloads.walmart.com). Also, AOL is hosting Jewel's recent AIM
conversation with fans worldwide at
music.aol.com/artists/aim-celebrity-interview/jewel-page-1.
Jewel is the featured artist this week on "Stripped: Raw and Real," with
over 180 radio stations from coast to coast showcasing an intimate Jewel
in-studio performance on their homepages. In addition, a special Jewel
live performance is slated to hit VH1.com's "Live @ VH1.com" in the coming
weeks.
In other news, Jewel is offering her songs on mobile phones for the first
time ever. Exclusively until May 15th, Sprint customers can download Music
Tones, Call Tones, and Video Ringers from "GOODBYE ALICE IN WONDERLAND," as
well as classics from past albums such as "Foolish Games," "Hands," "You
Were Meant For Me," and "Who Will Save Your Soul?"
An accomplished and world-renowned singer, songwriter, poet, and painter,
Jewel has continued to explore fresh musical avenues, branching out from
her folk roots to incorporate rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, and
classical influences into her work.
Jewel's personal odyssey, partly chronicled on her landmark 12-times
platinum debut, "PIECES OF YOU," comes to full flower on "GOODBYE ALICE IN
WONDERLAND." Marking her first album in three years -- and sixth all told
-- the collection is her most autobiographical work in more than a decade,
tracing her path from the extreme solitude of Alaska to the extreme joys
and pitfalls of fame.
"GOODBYE ALICE IN WONDERLAND" follows 2003's "0304," which debuted at #2 on
the Billboard 200 album chart, simultaneously becoming both the
highest-debuting and highest-charting album of her career to date, while
also marking her fourth album to hit the top ten on the national charts.
To date, Jewel has sold over 25 million albums worldwide, enjoying career
longevity rare among her generation of artists.
