Legendary Seattle grunge rock band Soundgarden headlined the first night of Voodoo Music Experience, New Orleans, LA and their performance was more-than-special considering it was the group’s only U.S. festival performance this year.  Frontman Chris Cornell admitted that this is the first visit to New Orleans when he wasn’t “in a blackout all the time.  It’s great.”  He also went into a long diatribe about why the Louisiana DEA was thanked in the credits of a Soundgarden album.  In the early years, it appears they were pulled over outside of Lake Charles which resulted in the discovery of a bit of weed belonging to a sound tech and the officers confiscated their money in return.  Cornell remarked about the officers, “If you can die from stupidity, they died from that a long time ago.” But great music always makes up for any bad situation so their show at Tipitina’s that night “helped atone for the loss.”
