The Darkness is a rock band from the UK that formed in 2000 by brothers Justin and Dan Hawkins, Fankie Poullian, and Ed Graham.  They are known for their glam look, exciting live shows, and classic rock influence. The group received mainstream success from their 2003 debut album, Permission to Land, which featured the hit “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”.

Hell or Higwater is a rock band formed in California by Atreyu drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller during the metalcore’s group indefinite hiatus.  Their debut album, Begin Again, is full of harmonies and killer guitar solos reminiscent of 80’s rock n’ roll.  The album also features a guest appearance by Avenged Sevenfold’s frontman, M. Shadows, who lends his vocals to the track “Go Alone”.  Hell or Highwater has played a stint on the popular Rockstar Uproar festival and also has opened for UK’s The Darkness during their 2013 tour.

Wintersun is a folk metal band from Finland and the brain child of former Ensiferum frontman Jari Mäenpää.  The band started as a side project in 2003 when Jari began compiling solo material he had been working on since 1995.  He was fired from Ensiferum after requesting time off from the band due to conflicting scheduling between Ensiferum’s European 2004 tour and recording time booked for Wintersun’s first album.  The self titled release came out on Nuclear Blast records in 2004 with the vocals, guitar, bass, and keyboards all being performed by Jari.  Wintersun began recording their second album Time in 2006, but do to numerous setbacks the long awaited Time wouldn’t see the light of day until the fall of 2012.  The epic concept album was split into two parts do to it’s expansiveness with part II scheduled for release in 2013.

Hessler is a metal band from Chicago, IL fronted by model Lariyah Daniels.  The groups style is a throw back to 1980’s heavy metal in the vain of W.A.S.P. or Judas Priest, but with more aggression. Their energetic live show and debut release, an EP titled Bad Blood, has gained them a growing following of dedicated fans that arrive early and stay late to chat and take photos with the band.  Hessler has shared the stage with acts such as Cinderella, Sebastian Bach, W.A.S.P., Skid Row, Lizzy Borden, and more.

Sebastian Bach is a metal solo artist and former frontman of the band Skid Row.  Bach rose to fame with Skid Row in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Hits like “Youth Gone Wild”, “18 and Life”, and the power ballad “I Remeber You” received regular radio and video play.  In 1996, Bach was fired from Skid Row and went on to release his first solo album 3 years later titled Bring ‘Em Bach Alive!.  In addition to his solo music career, Bach has performed in several Broadway musicals such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Jekyll and Hyde, acted in a variety of television series including a reoccurring role on The Gilmore Girls, VH1’s Supergroup, and VH1’s So I Married… series, and has lent his voice to the animated TV show SpongeBob SquarePants.

Paco de Lucía was born Francisco Sánchez Gómez in Algeciras, a city in the province of Cádiz, at the southernmost tip of Spain directly in front of the Rock of Gibraltar. The youngest of the five children of flamenco guitarist Antonio Sánchez, and brother of flamenco singer Pepe de Lucía and flamenco guitarist Ramón de Algeciras, he adopted the stage name Paco de Lucía in honor of his Portuguese mother, Luzia Gomes.

Fishbone is a U.S. alternative rock band formed in 1979 in Los Angeles, California, which plays a fusion of ska, punk rock, funk, hard rock and soul. Critics have noted of the band: “Fishbone was one of the most distinctive and eclectic alternative rock bands of the late ‘80s. With their hyperactive, self-conscious diversity, goofy sense of humor, and sharp social commentary, the group gained a sizable cult following during the late ‘80s, yet they were never able to earn a mainstream audience.”

Odd Future

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, often abbreviated OFWGKTA and also known simply as Odd Future, is an alternative hip hop collective from Los Angeles, California. The group is led by rapper/producer Tyler, The Creator, and includes rappers Hodgy Beats, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis and Mike G, singer Frank Ocean, producers Left Brain, Syd tha Kyd and Matt Martians, and other non-musical members, notably Jasper Dolphin and Taco L-boy. They are not rappers, but they do have features on group’s mixtapes and Tyler’s albums.
There are multiple groups inside the collective: MellowHype (Hodgy Beats and Left Brain), The Jet Age of Tomorrow (Matt Martians and Hal Williams, also known as the Super 3), EarlWolf (Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler, The Creator) and The Internet (Syd tha Kyd and Matt Martian).

Peelander Z

Peelander-Z is a Japanese punk band based in New York City. They bill themselves as a “Japanese Action Comic Punk band hailing from the Z area of Planet Peelander”. While the founding members of Peelander-Z were all born in Japan, they first met and formed their band while living in New York.
They perform on stage and appear in color-coordinated costumes, which they state are not costumes, but their skin. The costumes range from sentai style suits, to kimono, to rubber Playmobil style wigs. There is also a tiger costume and a giant squid/guitar costume to coincide with the song “Mad Tiger”. Another aspect of their routine is their on-stage antics such as human bowling (diving head-first into bowling pins), pretending to hit each other with chairs in imitation of pro-wrestlers, and mid-performance piggyback rides. They often allow audience members on stage to join in on the fun, and often dive into the audience or hang from a balcony as part of their act.
In June 2008, Peelander Blue announced he would be leaving the group to “go back to the Peelander-planet” because he is “a prince of P-Planet” and the “P-King will be retiring.” (P-Blue was getting married and could no longer tour.) In July 2008, Peelander-Z welcomed Peelander-Green.

Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by singer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band’s full time drummer in 1986 while bassist Ben Shepherd became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.
Soundgarden was one of the seminal bands in the creation of grunge, a style of alternative rock that developed in Seattle, and was one of a number of grunge bands signed to the record label Sub Pop. Soundgarden was the first grunge band to sign to a major label (A&M Records, in 1988), though the band did not achieve commercial success until they popularized “grunge” in the early 1990s with Seattle contemporaries Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.

As of 2010, Soundgarden had sold over 9 million records in the United States and an estimated 21 million worldwide.

Strike Anywhere is a punk rock/melodic hardcore band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1999 after the demise of frontman Thomas Barnett’s previous band, Inquisition, they took their name from the Inquisition song “Strike Anywhere”. Their music is characterized by fast tempos, catchy melodies, and emotionally-charged vocals delivered via shouting and singing. The band has received an increased amount of attention after their music appeared in 3 Tony Hawk video games: Tony Hawk’s Underground in 2003 (“Refusal”), Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland in 2005 (“Question the Answer”), and Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam (“The Promise”). They were also featured in the documentary Wake Up Screaming about the 2005 Vans Warped Tour. The band played their last show with guitarist Matt Sherwood in Auckland, New Zealand on March 17, 2007, with Mark Miller replacing Sherwood. Since then, the band has continued its regimen of international touring, including the group’s first South American tour, where they played Brazil and Colombia. The band also did a European festival tour in Summer of 2008. Strike Anywhere is now signed with Bridge Nine Records, and in an interview, Barnett said “There’s no celebrity culture, there’s nothing but hard work and a love for art with Bridge 9.”

Kelendria Trene “Kelly” Rowland is an American recording artist, actress, dancer, songwriter and model who rose to fame as one of the founding members of the American girl group Destiny’s Child. Christopher Maurice “Chris” Brown is an American R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He made his recording debut in late 2005 with the self-titled album Chris Brown at the age of 16. Days Difference is a pop/rock band that formed in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2004. The quartet consists of Jeremy Smith (lead vocals/keyboard), Jonathan Smith (drums), Micah Ricks (bass guitar) and Jeremiah Ricks (lead guitar). The group released their debut album Numbers in 2007. Their new album Days Difference was released on October 6, 2009 and marks the group’s first major release on the Universal Motown Records label. In 2011, the band was signed to Universal Republic Records for the release of their next album.

Big Time Rush

Big Time Rush (abbreviated BTR) is a Nickelodeon television series and also a real band, created by Scott Fellows about the Hollywood misadventures of four hockey players from Minnesota—Kendall, Logan, James, and Carlos, after they are selected to form a boy band. The series premiered with an hour-long pilot episode, “Big Time Audition”, on Nickelodeon, on November 28, 2009. Its official debut episode premiered on January 18, 2010, earning 7.1 million viewers, making it Nickelodeon’s highest-rated live-action series debut ever. The show is presently in its second season. On May 24, 2011, Big Time Rush was renewed for a third season of twenty more episodes.

A Perfect Circle is a rock supergroup formed in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. The band has gone through a number of line up changes, but have manage to remain consistent stylistically do to the stability of Howerdel as composer and Keenan writing lyrics.  The group took a hiatus from 2005-2009 and resumed activity in 2010 making TV appearances, going on tour in 2011, and slowly putting together new material. 

Black Lips

Black Lips are a “Flower Punk” band from Atlanta, Georgia and are noted for provocative theatrics – including vomiting (Cole’s medical condition), urination, nudity, electric R.C. car races, fireworks, a chicken, and flaming guitars. These have been inspired by the “punk-before-punk” Viennese Actionism movement in Austria and the infamous actionist hardcore punk musician GG Allin according to Alexander. Most of these antics, which are the center of attention in media coverage of the band, occurred in the band’s early days, a time when the band had not yet learned how to play their instruments.The frequency of the group’s outrageous stage antics has declined significantly, as they claim to have matured “a little bit”.

Twins Nathan and Matthew Leone founded the Chicago based rock group Madina Lake in 2005.  They gained nationwide exposure when the group was featured on a special edition episode of the TV series Fear Factory.  The money they earned from the appearance funded the band’s first EP, The Disappearance of Adalia.  Since then the group has appeared on the Vans Warped Tour as well as traveled alongside popular acts such as Aiden, Mayday Parade, and Coheed and Cambria   In 2010, Matthew Leone was hospitalize after being severely injured when he came to the aid of a violent domestic dispute.  The Smashing Pumpkins played a benefit show in Chicago which raised $80,000 to help with his hospital bills.

The Band Perry

The Band Perry, an American country music group, is composed of Kimberly Perry (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano) and her two brothers: Reid Perry (bass guitar, background vocals) and Neil Perry (mandolin, drums, accordion, background vocals). The group signed to Republic Nashville in August 2009 and has released three singles: “Hip to My Heart” (November 2009), “If I Die Young” (June 2010), and “You Lie” (January 2011). All three songs are included on the band’s self-titled debut album, released October 12, 2010. “If I Die Young” reached number one on the Hot Country Songs charts and has been certified 2× platinum.
