The Polish death metal band Decapitated was formed in 1996 in Krosno, Poland. The founding members of the band were two brothers, Witold “Vitek” Kiełtyka and Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka. They released their debut album, Winds of Creation, in 2000.

In late 2007, the band was involved in a violent car crash. Vitek died on November 2, 2007 at the age of 23 because of injuries he suffered from the accident. Another member of the band slipped into a coma.

Vogg reformed the band after a period of separation. He recruited new members, and the new Decapitated went on tour. The band has been recognized as one of Europe’s “finest” advocates of technical death metal at such a young age. They have gained an international fan base in the underground music scene.
